COVID-19 DEBT RELIEF ASSISTANCE
4 October 2021
The Housing Authority (‘Authority’) had introduced in April 2020 COVID-19 Debt Relief Assistance (‘assistance’), a Fijian Government initiative in coordination with the Authority to assist Fijian families under section 66 of the Consumer Credit Act 1999. This assistance is for customers that are facing financial hardship brought by the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the financial status of customers and thus are facing difficulty in servicing their mortgage repayments. These COVID-19 hardships include:
The assistance is four-fold:
As at 31 August 2021, the Authority had deferred repayment in mortgages of 639 customers with a total loan value of $29.27 million.
The Authority has further extended this assistance up to 31 December 2021 noting ongoing effect of the pandemic on case by case basis. Customers of the Authority that are facing hardship in their mortgage repayments are to complete the application form for the assistance with the required documentation at this link
The deferment in debt ensures that the account of customers does not fall into arrears at any time and allows to defer repayments after three months until the financial hardship eases. On a case by case basis, further extension in deferment may be considered.
