Two companies are being considered to prepare a performance specification for Waila City. This follows a tender that was advertised late last year.

Housing Authority chief executive officer, Alipate Naiorosui says, “We would like to engage suitably qualified companies that will guide our building contractor which is Top Symphony on the exact specifications of the what and how to build affordable homes in Waila City.”

“Therefore, as a result of Housing Authority calling for tender last year, we have shortlisted two companies.”

The Authority is in the process of finalising the contract.

It should be noted that the project (Waila City) will proceed as planned, however it will be delayed due to the technical concerns that need to be addressed first and foremost.

“It must be appreciated that a project of this magnitude will need meticulous planning and while Waila City was supposed to take off the ground last year, we just cannot ignore the technical issues that must be addressed first with our contractors. Once we are able to sort out these pertinent matters, then and only then can the actual development take place,” Mr Naiorosui said.

This painstaking process will ensure that Housing Authority will ‘get it right the first time’ therefore minimising any risks that may arise later.

The development of Waila City at its completion will be home to approximately 5,000 families and will be complemented with a complete central business district serviced with commercial, industrial, recreational, health, educational and religious facilities.
