(Suva – June 26, 2025) – The Honourable Minister for Housing and Local Government, Hon. Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa, today officiated the launch of the Housing Authority Model Homes, the Village Housing Loan Scheme, and the announcement of newly reduced lending interest rates—further strengthening the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Fiji for affordable and accessible housing for all Fijians.
The event was held at the Housing Authority subdivision in Nepani, Nasinu, where the first of several Model Homes will be constructed. Additional homes will follow in Davuilevu (Nausori), Tacirua (Suva), and Tavakubu (Lautoka).
Speaking at the event, Minister Nalumisa stated that the Model Homes represent a significant step forward in construction innovation and efficiency.
“The Model House initiative is inclusive and climate resilient and aims to reduce construction time, provide structural integrity and ensure affordability,” he said.
Housing Authority will be engaging different contractors to construct the design for the Model Homes, which are either Pre-Cast Panel Walls and Light Steel Frame Walls with Panels.
Alongside the model homes, the Village Housing Loan Scheme is another key product of the Housing Authority that was officially re-launched. This initiative is designed to assist families in rural, peri-urban and maritime communities to build and improve their homes through flexible and affordable financing options.
The Minister also announced further reductions to the Housing Authority lowest lending interest rates in Fiji. The revised rates that will come into effect in the new financial year, 01 August 2025, include:
“These interest rates are a major step in making homeownership more accessible—particularly for first-time homeowners and low- to middle-income families,” Minister Nalumisa emphasized.
The Housing Authority plans to deliver 250 model homes by December 2025. In addition, further residential development is planned in Tacirua along Khalsa Road, aimed at supporting those commuting along the Suva–Nausori corridor.
By December 2027, Housing Authority expects to deliver 400 residential lots across Nepani, Davuilevu, Tavakubu, Tacirua, and Korosalusalu. Development work is also scheduled to begin in Veikoba next year.
Housing Authority Board Chair, Mrs. Sereana Qoro, highlighted the long-term strategy in line with national priorities of Housing Authority.
“The Housing Authority is actively developing future land plans to support the Ministry of Housing goal of addressing informal settlements and increasing the supply of affordable lots. This aligns with the National Development Plan 2025–2029, Vision 2050, and the National Housing Policy 2025–2030,” she said.
She added that residential land planning is currently underway for several major projects in Wairabetia (Lautoka, Waqadra (Nadi) and Waila, Tacirua, and Veikoba (Nasinu).
Housing Authority is expected to construct 200 Model Homes by December 2025.
