(Suva – 30 October 2025) – The Minister for Housing and Local Government, Hon. Maciu Nalumisa, today officiated at the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Veikoba Subdivision, marking a significant milestone in the Government’s ongoing efforts to provide affordable and sustainable housing for all Fijians.
Senior government officials, landowners, project partners, and stakeholders, representatives from Ministry of Housing, Public Rental Board and representatives from China Railway First Group (CRFG) the contractor engaged for the development all attended the event.
In his address, Minister Nalumisa reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring that every family in Fiji has access to safe, secure, and affordable housing.
“The Veikoba Subdivision is another tangible step toward that goal. It will create opportunities for families to own their first home while supporting the continued growth of Nasinu as one of Fiji’s key urban centres,” said Hon. Nalumisa.
“When we invest in housing, we invest in our people — their dignity, wellbeing, and future. Every home built represents stability for a family, a safe place for children to grow, and an anchor for community development.”
About the Veikoba Subdivision
Located approximately 1.5 kilometres from the Nasinu Town Centre, the Veikoba Residential Subdivision spans 118.8 acres, purchased by the Housing Authority of Fiji at a cost of $1,040,000, with an annual lease payment of $10,700.
The development will deliver 640 serviced residential lots featuring single-storey row homes, with plans for two- and three-bedroom design-and-build homes. Each lot will be equipped with essential infrastructure — roads, water supply, and electricity — ensuring a well-planned, connected, and livable community.
Partnerships and Collaboration
Minister Nalumisa acknowledged the cooperation of key agencies and stakeholders — including the Water Authority of Fiji, Fiji Roads Authority, Energy Fiji Limited, Nasinu Town Council/Suva Rural Local Authority, and the Ministry of Local Government — for their essential roles in enabling the project’s implementation.
He also expressed gratitude to the landowners of Veikoba – the Mataqali Naulukaroa for their partnership in releasing land for residential development, and to China Railway First Group for their technical expertise in delivering this major project.
The development in Veikoba is expected to not only meet housing demands in the Suva–Nasinu corridor but also generate local employment and opportunities for small contractors and suppliers during the construction phase.
Giving the vote of thanks, the Housing Authority Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Isikeli Navuda, thanked the traditional owners of the land, the Honourable Minister for Housing and all partners for their support.
“This project is not just about land development — it’s about building communities and providing hope for families who dream of owning a home. As we break ground today, we also break new ground in our journey towards inclusive and sustainable housing development in Fiji,” Mr Navuda said.
The Ground Breaking ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter of growth, opportunity, and hope for families who will one day call Veikoba their home.
As Minister Nalumisa noted, “Together, we are building not just houses, but communities — and ultimately, a stronger Fiji.”
