On the 3rd of November, 2009 there was a meeting at Charles Street Rental Estate where Management of the Public Rental Board attended together with the tenants. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce Community Building and the Pilot Project was planned to start at Charles Street. This project focuses on capacity/skills to empower women in economic, social, civic and cultural sustainable development.
The Public Rental Board is looking outside the box in trying to give something back to the tenants so that we could together build a better community. Somehow, it goes together with the government policies in trying to help the poor and build them up to be better citizens of Fiji.
Furthermore, the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), has involved themselves in trying to build Charles Street Estate a better community since this structure of building a community is part of their work.
Until today, Charles Street has formed a Womens Club called the Bagasau Womens Club headed by Ilisapeci Vuakali. These women have started on flowers arrangement, planting flowers and nursery to be based at Charles Street.
